Resume or Curriculum Vitae (CV) is a document provided by the applicant to demonstrate his/ her background and skills. This document is necessary for universities and employers to evaluate the educational knowledge and accomplishments' of applicants before offering them a position. Hence it is very important to use the right vocabulary and terminology to stand out among other applicants, as resume/cv is the key to securing a spot. Applicants must allow the reader to quickly identify his/her skills and areas of professions executed. Nevertheless, this document is part of personal branding mix, which can be used as a marketing tool to aim at a particular industry.    

 

Tips for writing an effective Resume: 

 

Writing a good resume increases your chances of being choosen or employed. This is due to the fact that a well writen Resume, allows the reader to easilly spot the strenghts and knowledge of the applicant. Accordingly, below is a list of tips, that could be noted when preparing your resume: 

  • When submitting a resume, please ensure all the personal details are accurate and up to date,
  • In order to meet the job discription, you must mention accuratly the number of years worked in the stated company, provide information about the undertaken responsibilities, and even mention your achievements. Consequently, the reader will become more interested in further reading  your Resume and gain information about you, 
  • Quantify your impact, mention your accompolishments in numbers, and
  • Ensure there is no grammatical or typographical errors. This is due to the fact that will weaken the trust relation between the future employer and you. 

 

Resumes may be organised in different ways, in accordance with taste and purpose of each applicant. Generally the content and heading of a Resume is as follow: 

 

  • Personal Details:

Most Resumes start with this section. Information about applicants name, date of birth and contact information should be included. The basic information about the applicants can be added in the header, to make it easier to find. 

 

  • Personal Profile: 

A profile is a summary of the applicants resume. It is a short statement about the  experience, skills and position about the relevant job. This section is optional. 

 

  • Education and Qualification: 

Under this section, applicants are required to provide information about their educational background and earned qualifications. Hence, must list the most recent qualifications that are relevant to the position. If have just complete school please list fromhighest levels of studies achieved. 

 

  • Skills and Work Experience:

Applicants are required to provide information about their past and present work experiences.  detailed information about roles and responsibilities of these works are required. 

 

  • Publications: 

List of articles or books published or presented at conferences, should be included beneath this section. It is best to have a summary of those articles attacked with the Resume.

 

  • Additional Information/ Personal Studies:

This section is required to be completed, if the Resume is required for academical purposes. However, if further information is required to be provided by the applicant in regards to its job descriptions or background, could add the details under this section. 

 

  • Interests:

Applicants may include this section in their resume to demonstrates their personalities. Informations about interests such as sports and arts can illustrate the applicants personality to be suitable for the applying job. 

 

  • Referees:

Name and contact information of the referees should be provided under this section. These referees should be the ones that have provided recommendation letters for the applicants.
