Australian Physiotherapy Council (APC)
The council is an authorised body responsible for assessment. Applicants, who wish to apply for General Skilled Migration Program to pursue their career and migrate to Australia, are required to have their overseas qualification assessed before application.
APC has the responsibility for assessment for two causes:
· For recognition and registration of professionals to practice their career in Australia; and
· For recognition as a professional physiotherapist to migrate.
Professionals, who wish to pursue their career in Australia and migrate, are required to undertake professional examinations in physiotherapy before applying for assessment. However, applicants may only be exempt from taking this examination if:
· Hold an accredited entry-level qualification in the profession completed at an Australian university; and/or
· Registered and hold a practicing certificate with any state of Australia or New Zealand Physiotherapist’s Registration Board.
APC roles and responsibilities:
· Accrediting physiotherapy courses offered by Australian universities and colleges;
· Assessing the qualifications and skills of overseas applicants who wish to practice their career in Australia under Skills Migration Categories;
· Registering physiotherapists under the Physiotherapy Board of Australia;
· Advising the Governmental agencies on different matters;
· Networking with national and international professional bodies to exchange professional guidelines on standards of practice and education; and
· Administering and maintaining the standards of practice of Physiotherapist in Australia.

** English proficiency, applicant who has acquired his/her qualification from a non-English speaking country, is required to sit for IELTS examination. It is essential to achieve a minimum score of 7 in each of the four components (Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening).
The English proficiency test required for assessment is IELTs, however, other English examinations like TOFEL iBT may also be accepted by the relevant authoritiy.

Assessment of overseas qualification is a complex and time consuming procedure. It may take up to 8 weeks for the process to take place. After completion of the assessment a letter and Statement of Psychology Qualification is received by the applicant. The received qualification is useful to assist:
· Migration officers to determine the suitability of the applicant for migration under the General Skilled Migration Categories;
· Registration as a physiotherapists under Physiotherapy Board of Australia;
· Entry to accredited relevant courses; and
· Eligibility for a particular job.
