Australian Pharmacy Council (APharmC)

APharmC is a part of National Registration and Accreditation Scheme, and works with the Pharmacy Board of Australia and the Pharmacy Council of New Zealand. Since 2002, the council has been responsible to review and maintain the standards of practice and ensure the professionals are competent to practice in Australia, for public safeties.

Applicants, who choose to migrate to Australia under Skilled Migration Categories, are required to be registered and have their qualifications assessed. Upon acceptance of and successful completion of assessment process, the applicant will be issued an APcharmC statement of Pharmacist qualification. Various factors are taken into consideration by the authority to assess the qualification of the applicant. These factors may be as such: academic system of the country concerned, the level and structure of the undertaken programme.

 

APharmaC roles and responsibilities: 

 

·         Review and accrediting the degree and programs offered by Australian Universities in this field;

·         Authorising the activities of other organisations, which offer continuing professional developments (COD) in Australia;

·         Conducting written examinations for the professionals and recent graduates who wish to be registered in Australia and New Zealand;

·         Assess and evaluate overseas qualifications of applicants who wish to migrate to Australia under Skilled Migration Categories.

Have you received your qualification from an accredited University/College in Australia or New Zealand?

You do not need to have your qualification assessed.

You are required to have your qualification and skills assessed by the relevant assessing authority.

Are you required to be submitted for assessment?

Documents required:

 

·         Certificate or a degree, in original language and a certified copy of an official English translation, if applicable.

·         Official transcript, in original language and a certified copy of an official English translation, if applicable.  

·         Thesis details, if have completed a thesis or dissertation as a part of the degree, certified copies of evidence must also be provided.

·         Evidence of membership, in the relevant association, if applicable.

·         Evidence of registration/ license, if applicable.

·         Assessment form, and

·         Evidence of English proficiency**.

 

 

** English proficiency, applicant who has acquired his/her qualification from a non-English speaking country, is required to sit for IELTS examination. It is essential to achieve a minimum score of 7 in each of the four components (Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening).

The English proficiency test required for assessment is IELTs, however, other English examinations like TOFEL iBT may also be accepted by the  relevant authoritiy.

Assessment of overseas qualification is a complex and time consuming procedure. It may take up to 8 weeks for the process to take place. After completion of the assessment a letter and Statement of Pharmacist Qualification is received by the applicant. The received qualification is useful to assist:

 

·         Migration officers to determine the suitability of the applicant for migration under the General Skilled Migration Categories;

·         Registration as a pharmacist under Pharmacy Board of Australia(PBA);

·         Entry to accredited relevant courses; and

·         Eligibility for a particular job.
