Australian Institute of Radiography (AIR)
The body through the Professional Accreditation and Education Board (PAEB) accredits the undergraduates programs offered by educational bodies in Australia in the field of Radiography and Medical Imaging. Furthermore AIR assesses the qualifications of overseas professionals that choose to practice their career in Australia through Overseas Qualification Assessment Panel (OQAP).
AIR roles and responsibilities:
· Providing information and documents to Registration Boarder and other relevant bodies;
· Protecting and representing the interests of its members;
· Providing updates and expertise advices in all areas of professions for its members;
· Accrediting programmes and courses provided by universities and relevant educational bodies;
· Assessing qualifications and skills of overseas applicants; and
· Providing a free service for its members looking for an intern position.

Skill Assessment Procedure for migration:
Applicants, who have certified AIR overseas qualification or simply wish to practice their relative profession in Australia, are required to apply for assessment. The assessing authority will assess applications on an individual bases to have their qualifications recognised and align with Australian standards at the time of qualification. Moreover, Ultrasound applications and qualifications will be assessed based on standards set by Australian Sonographer Accreditation Register (ASAR).

** English proficiency, applicant who has acquired his/her qualification from a non-English speaking country, is required to sit for IELTS examination. It is essential to achieve a minimum score of 7 in each of the four components (Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening).
The English proficiency test required for assessment is IELTs, however, other English examinations like TOFEL iBT may also be accepted by the relevant authoritiy.

Assessment of overseas qualification is a complex and time consuming procedure. It may take up to 16 weeks for the process to take place. After completion of the assessment a letter and Statement of Recognition is received by the applicant. The received statement is useful to assist:
· Migration officers to determine the suitability of the applicant for migration under the General Skilled Migration Categories;
· Registration as Medical Radiation Practitioners under Medical Radiation Practice Board of Australia; and
· Eligibility for relevant jobs.
