Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (AIQS)

The organisation practices its activities with chapters and Divisions in all States and Territories of the country.  The organisation is the member of International Cost Engineering Council (ICEC) and cooperates with the Pacific Association of Quantity Surveyors (PAQS) for further participation in its field of profession. The organisation was nominated by the Australian Government to advice the Department of Immigration and Border Protection and act as an assessing authority.

AIQS roles and responsibilities: 

·         Collecting cost data and the publishing of  Current Cost Costs for industry research;

·         Assessing standards of education and training of professionals;

·         Ensuring and maintaining work safety of its members and the industry;

·          Supporting the educations of trainees;

·         Maintaining and developing the methods of practice;

·         Representing the interests of its members at government, public bodies and forums;

·         Producing policies and regulations on professional matters; and

·         Assessing the qualification of overseas professionals.

Skill Assessment Procedure for migration:

Overseas professionals who wish to pursue their career in Australia and migrate to this country under General Skill Migration Categories programme must have their qualifications and skilled assessed. International Quantity surveyors need to apply for assessment. There are three pathways available for assessment and applicants are required to choose the best suited route.

·         Pathway 1- Australian Accredited Qualification;

Applicants that have been trained in Australia and hold an accredited Bachelor or Post Graduate degree from one of the Australian     institution.

·         Pathway 2- Non-Accredited Australian Qualification with Two Years Employment; 

Australian Qualification:

Australian trained applicants that hold a Bachelor or Post Graduate Degree in Quantity Surveying recognised by the CRICOS, or

Skilled Employment:

Applicants must provide documents and evidences, which would certify they have at least two years of full time employment in their profession.

·         Pathway 3- Overseas Trained Application.

Overseas Qualification:

Overseas applicants must hold an approved bachelor degree in their field of profession, or

Skilled Employment:

Applicants must provide documents and evidences, which would certify they have at least two years of full time employment in their profession.
