Australian Computer Society (ACS)

This 22,000 membered association is incorporated to develop the information and communication resources of Australia, and improve its professional services. ACS was formed in 1966 from five state based societies and since then, has expanded in branches all around the country.  The association is also an assessing authority for occupations like programmers. It is responsible to evaluate the skills of overseas professionals with Australian standards, to grant them a recognition letter for migration. 

 

ACS roles and responsibilities:

 

·         Accrediting courses and programs offered regarding ICT by educational bodies;

·         Providing job opportunities and assisting its members in finding a career;

·         Providing information and resources for its members in relation to their field of profession;

·         Awarding the applicants a professional certification in ICT;

·         Networking  with other bodies and organisation that provide a similar activities;

·         Offering a wide range of information about ICT for its members;

·          Assessing the migrants’ qualifications and skills; and

·         Cooperating with education institution to offer training and programs.

Assessment Procedure for migration:  

 

Skill assessment is suitable for professionals that have acquired their qualifications from overseas and wish to migrate to Australia to pursue their career. Applicants, who wish to apply for assessments under ACS requirements, need to complete the required form on ASC website.  And provide the required documents. 

Applicant's qualification are evaluated with Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) using the Australian standards. Once the qualification is assessed within AQF comparibility, each of the undertaken courses are assessed to determine the content of applicants qualification.

Have you received your qualification from an accredited University/College in Australia or New Zealand?

You are not required to be assessed.

You are required to have your qualification and skills assessed by the relevant authority. 

Are you required to be submitted for assessment?

Documents required:

 

·         Certificate or a degree, in original language and a certified copy of an official English translation, if applicable.

·        Certified copy of your identification.  

·         Official transcript, in original language and a certified copy of an official English translation, if applicable.  

·       Evidence of supervised teaching practice.

·         Evidence of membership, in the relevant association, if applicable.

·         Evidence of employment, from graduation to presernt.

·         Evidence of registration/ license, if applicable, and

·         Assessment for.

 

 

Assessment of overseas qualification is a complex and time consuming procedure. It may take up to 8 weeks for the process to take place. After completion of the assessment a Letter of Assessment is received by the applicant. The received qualification is useful to assist:

 

·         Migration officers to determine the suitability of the applicant for migration under the General Skilled Migration Categories; and

·         Eligibility for relevant jobs.
