Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)

As of today the association has a number of branches in the country, and for further assistance has become a member of the International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW). The association is responsible for developing and regulating the standards of social work profession in Australia. AASW has over 8,500 members in diverse range of fields practicing in different location.

The association is a recognised assessing authority for social workers that need assessment for migration/visa application purposes. A successful completion of assessment does not qualify the oversea applicant to become a member of the association.

AASW roles and responsibilities: 

·         Advocating on behalf of members for the pursue of justice and fairness;

·         Developing and maintaining the practice and ethical standards;

·         Representing the interests of members as a group;

·         Accrediting and developing the educational standards of the professionals;

·         Assessing and recognising the qualified social workers; and

·         Providing resources and facilities for the members.

Skill Assessment Procedure for migration:

The association is required to assess the qualification of overseas applicants for migration. For applicants that wish to gain further points towards their migration application, have the option to apply for skilled employment assessment.

It is worth mentioning, social work is not a registered profession in Australia, and by that means many employers may require the applicants to have a membership with AASW.
