San Jose State University (SJSU) is a public university located in San Jose, California, United States of America. The university was first established in 1857, marking it as being the oldest public institution of higher education on the West Coast of the United States. The main campus of SJSU is 154-acre and is located in downtown San Jose. Almost 33,000 students are enrolled for 130 undergraduate and graduate majors.

The university offers 69 bachelor's degrees in 81 concentrations, 65 masters with 29 concentrations, 5 credential programs with 19 concentrations, three joint doctoral degrees and one independent doctoral degree program.

Rankings: 

  • According to the U.S. News and World Report 2015 college rankings, SJSU was ranked 8th among western regional public universities and 38th among all regional colleges in the western America. 

 

  • Charles W. Davison College of Engineering won the 7th place by U.S. News & World Report in 2012,  among all US public engineering schools offering undergraduate and graduate degrees and was ranked 27th among all 193 Engineering Schools. 

 

  • In addition, U.S. News & World Report ranked the Graduate School of Library and Information Science of SJSU as 22nd accross the nation. 

 

Campus: 

The main campus of the University is in a rectangular area with 55 buildings, measuring in 154 hectares and is located in downtown San Jose. The University Campus is located south of San Fernando Street, North of San Salvador Street and on its west is Fourth Street and on the east side is the Tenth Street.

Its important to mention, most of the University's sports facilities are located at the Southern Campus, which is situated half a mile south of main campus on the Seventh Avenue.
