Health Sciences

In Australia the following areas:

Medical, Dental, Pharmaceutical, Veterinary, Labratory, Physiotherapy, Nutrition, Nursing and midwifery are all considered as Health Science.

Therefore, Health Science and  Biomedical Science are all part of applied science involved with health care.

Health science can be categorised into two groups: the first group involved studie relating nutrition and food, the second group relateds to human health and other living organisms.

Human Science is closely linked with Natural Science (Chemistry, Physics and Biology)  in fieldsof Pharamaceutical Science, Epidemiology, Biochemistry and Biogenetics.

The differences between the Health Science studies in Iran and Australia:

In Iran, students of  Medice, Pharamcy and Veterinary will earn their doctorate degree after completing 7 or 8 years of their educational programs. On the other hand, in Australia, students can compelete their studies in different levels, undergraduate, graduate and PhD, and are not continuous.  Duration of all the undergraduate programs for Health Science can be the same. Students should first complete their undergraduate degree in "Health Science" or "Biomedical Sciences" and then be enrolled in medical or dental programs. It is important to note upon admission they must pass the relevant enterance exam and be interviewed.

Those that have completed their Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy or Veterinary Medicine degree in Iran, can not continue their studies for PhD in Australia. This is due to the reason that their degree will be assessed as an undergraduate degree in Australia. They can only apply for graduate level. However, if have sufficient experiences and researches in their fields of studies, may become eligible to apply for PhD.
