English Language Classes

Information about English language courses in Australia and New Zealand:

·         It normally takes between 1 to 10 months to complete this course,

·         During this period, students have the opportunity to interact with other international students in an academic environment,

·         It is a 20 hours course a week and each class is 55 minutes,

·         The English proficiency levels of students are measured prior to the start of the course, and are accordingly classified in a most suitable English classes,

·         Throughout this course, students can benefit from the same life style of a college/university student. Consequently, will be more prepared and familiar with the university life,

·         All the while students can take advantage of modern facilities, library and audio-visual teaching of the college/ institute, and

·         Students can participate if extracurricular activities, like sports and arts.

Here is a description about one of the leading English Language courses in Australia:  

ELIOCOS (Australia’s English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students)

It is one of the most favored and dominant English Courses in Australia and other parts of the world. In fact, ELICOS is an English language course prior to the start of university course, for students that have difficulties in understanding the language. Evidently, there are many other similar programs that offer the same goal and idea. ELIOCOS accepts students from all around the world, and the accepted students can enter Australia with student’s visa.  According to the Laws of Australian Government, Iranian students cannot obtain student’s visa by having an admission from ELICOS only. They are required to have an acceptance letter from a university too.   This course if offered by many institutes throughout Australia. Upon completion, students are eligible to enter their university of choice. It is interesting to note that each university has a contract with a particular language institute. As a result, students that have undertaken language courses in that particular language center will be eligible to enter the university.  For instance, Melbourne University has a partnership with “Hawthorn”, UTC with “In Search”, Deakin University with “DULI” and University of South Australia with “CELT”. Yet, there are many universities that work directly with ELIOCOS.

 Students that have not earned the required IELTS score are required to be enrolled in these institutions.

This does not mean they cannot register prior to entry to universities. Students can register with ELIOCOS and after completion of their course, undertake an IELTS exam. Having achieved a minimum score, allow the students to enter university, this is efficient for those that do not wish to attend additional English courses in their university.  International students that come to Australia to study this course are required to be enrolled as full-time pupils.
