High Schools in Australia
Australia follows the three-tier model which includes primary education (primary schools), followed by secondary education (secondary schools/high schools) and tertiary education (universities, TAFE colleges and vocational Education and Training providers/VET providers).
In Australia schools are divided into two categories: Private and Public schools. It is no surprise the tuition fees of private schools is much higher than public schools; accordingly they provide better facilities, securities and support for international students.
With exception of a few, all schools in Australia are mixed.
Secondary school provides secondary education between grades 9 and 12. Thus, in some states 8th grade may also be part of the secondary school. Students of 16 and 18 years usually graduate from high schools (secondary schools). The name of the qualifications awarded by these students is different in each state and is equivalent to Diploma qualification of Iran.
Students that wish to study for higher education in university are required to undertake pre-university courses. Courses of studies at secondary schools are divided into two categories: compulsory and optional. These optional courses could be Arts, Sports or more specified programs, like medicine and business studies. Accordingly, it allows the students to prepare themselves for their chosen field of studies in university.
Iranian students that wish to enter secondary schools in Australia are required to provide evidence of completion of their primary and middle schools (secondary schools) studies. Documents of students need to be assessed and evaluated in accordance with Australian standards. Therefore, the core subjects like Mathematics will be taken into considerations. Submitting evidence of English proficiency (IELTS) is essential, but students below 18 years old are exempt from providing. Students should have an understanding of English language, otherwise are required to attend additional English classes in Australia. Students younger than 18 years old need to have a guardian accompanying them to Australia. A guarding could be a family member (mother, father or siblings above 22 years of age) or a third persona that has been officially introduced.
It should be noted that only boarding schools in Australia provide dormitory for students.

Tuition fees of these schools vary between AU$ 18,000 – 60,000 a year depending on the type of the schools.
