The University of Western Australia (UWA) is a research intensive university in Perth, Australia that was established in 1911. UWA is a member of Group of Eight Australian Universities, marking it as a highly ranked university.

 

The 65 hectare Crawley campus of UWA is located on the Swan River, which is about 5 km west of the Perth central business district.  In 1999 the University established a UWA Albany Centre to meet rural education needs. UWA has around 20000 undergraduate students, 6000 postgraduate, and 1538 academic and 2218 administrative staffs. Annually the University receives in excess of $71 million of external research income, expends over $117 million on research and graduates over 300 higher degrees by research students, mostly doctorates.

UWA has more than 80 research institutes and centres, such as: Centre for Forensic Science, the Centre for Energy, the Centre for Water Research and the Centre for Software Practice.

 

Rankings:

In 2015 the University was ranked 109th worldwide by Times Higher Education. QS World University Rankings placed UWA 98th and Academic Ranking of World Universities marked the University 87th.

The University of Western Australia features six main subject libraries on campus, including the architecturally recognised Reid Library building, the largest library on campus with four publicly accessible levels. All the residential colleges and buildings are closely located the campuses.

UWA Sports operates on campus with fitness centre, aquatic centre as well as watersport s complexes.  In addition, the University operates off camps Sports Park containing all athletics, baseball, cricket, football, hockey, rugby, soccer and Frisbee fields.
