Who is the Aged Dependent Relative Visa Subclass  838 for?
This visa lets  a single older person stay in Australia if they rely on a relative who lives in Australia for financial support.With this visa you can stay in Australia indefinitely,work and study in Australia,enrol in Australia's public healthcare scheme, Medicare.You can sponsor your relatives to come to Australia and apply for Australian citizenship, if eligible.
You can travel to and from Australia for 5 years from the date we grant the visa. After 5 years you will need a Resident Return (RRV) visa to re-enter Australia as a permanent resident.You and your family members must meet all visa conditions and obey Australian laws. Learn more about conditions for this visa.For Aged Relative Visa subclass 838 You must be sponsored by an eligible relative or a relative's partner and You must be old enough to receive the age pension in Australia.To apply for this visa, you must hold any visa except a Transit visa (subclass 771).You and any family members who apply for the visa with you must meet our health requirement.If you apply for this visa from outside Australia, family members who are not coming to Australia might also have to meet our health requirement.
You must be able to obtain an assurance of support. An assurance of support assures us that you will not have to rely on government assistance after you enter Australia on this visa. The assurance is for you and any family members who come to Australia with you on this visa.You must be able to show us you have been entirely or mostly dependent on your relative in Australia for your basic needs of food, shelter and clothing for at least 3 years before you apply for the visa.  
To be eligible for this visa you must have no partner.If you owe the Australian Government money you must have paid it back or have a formal arrangement to pay it back.You might not be eligible for this visa if you have had a visa cancelled or refused while you were in Australia.
